Being financially organized is the key to being self sufficient and starting a budget is the first step to financial freedom. Understanding where your money is going, where you need to cut back and how you can better allocate that money is, in my opinion, worthy of a big pat on the back or high five. The only way to know those 3 things is to have a budget in place. The definition of a budget is a forecast of knowing what money is coming in and what money is going out for a specific period of time and without knowing what your expected income and expenses are, how would you ever know if you have additional funds to save or how to prioritize where your money is going.
In order to save money you have to learn to cut back on unessary expenses. In order to save money, you need to see how much of your money is going to this bill or that bill and to find out if there are ways you can cut back. With a budget you will be able to set financial goals and find ways to make your money work better for you.
With the constant ups and downs in our economy these past few years being aware of your financial situation is crucial. No one has any idea of if their job will be secure for a long period of time and so you need to prepare. Imagine how proud and secure you would feel if you knew where every dollar was going and knowing that some of those dollars are helping improve your quality of life. The idea of not having to wonder if you could afford something, not having any overdraft fees or just paying the minimum balance on a credit card because you are just not sure if you have the money. Starting a budget is the start to setting yourself free.
