People have been known to do some crazy things when money gets tight. From robbing banks to breaking into convenient stores, being low on cash can change the way people think about the consequences of their actions. While both of these are cases of physical theft, there is another form of theft that is performed online. The use of a credit card generator to make purchases online is one of the fastest growing forms of fraud in the United States.
So how is this accomplished? Well, the criminal uses the credit card generator on his/her computer to find a credit card number that is valid. He/she then takes this valid number and makes an order online. Physical products are not the only items being purchased with these generators. Services such as airline tickets are also bought. Below is a case of one such occurrence.
One day, in early October, Janet (we will leave her true name concealed) purchased a round trip ticket online from a major US airline. When she got her next credit card statement, she noticed that there were 5 additional charges for one way domestic tickets. The credit card statement went so far as to include passenger names, destination, and the date of the flight. She promptly called the airline and told them what was going on. They told her that the tickets had in fact already been used. She told the airline that she thought the tickets were purchased fraudulently and the airline told Janet that the purchase seemed consistent with fraudulent patter
ns.
Janet then called her credit card company to notify them of the activity. They promptly took care of the problem and did not hold her liable for any of the activity. Janet was lucky that this situation turned out so well. Many other people that are the victim of credit card generator fraud do not get off so lucky.
From this case, we can clearly see that criminals will use credit card generators for more than just purchasing physical items. If you would like to protect yourself from this sort of fraud, it is important to do exactly what Janet has done. You need to check our credit card statements every month to look for charges that you did not make. You should also call the airline to see if the tickets have already been used. If they have not, then you can cancel the tickets before they are used. The sooner you catch fraud, the sooner it can be resolved.
